What Causes Dark Sports On The Skin?
Hyperpigmentation occurs when certain areas of the skin become a darker colour than the surrounding areas.
Usually, discoloration of the skin shows up as brown spots or small patches of freckles that make the skin look uneven.
This pigmentation that occurs on the skin is due to the overproduction of melanin, which is the pigment that gives your hair and skin its colour.
The three most common causes of pigmentation on the skin are inflammation, hormonal response, and sun exposure.
These all trigger a process known as melanogenesis, which is responsible for creating extra melanin as a way of protecting your skin.
However, because almost all of us love spending time out in the sun or are simply just exposed by being outside, the UV rays from the sun are the most common cause of dark and brown spots on the skin.
How It Works
Thanks to new technologies, it’s now possible to achieve amazing results.
At Envision Laser Studio we use the latest state of the art Cynosure Elite iQ laser technology to target unwanted pigmented lesions.
Laser Pigmentation Removal works to reduce the appearance of freckles, pigmentation, and post-trauma pigmentation including acne scars and age spots safely and effectively
The energy/heat delivered from the laser damages the cells that create the pigment, causing the body to naturally eliminate this tissue, while creating new, healthy tissue, revealing a more clear, even, and youthful skin tone
Before treatments can be undertaken, you will need to book a consultation with one of Envision Laser Studio’s qualified Cynosure technicians.
Consultations are necessary to determine whether you’re a viable candidate for laser pigmentation treatment.
During your consultation, the affected area and your medical history will be evaluated.
You will also find out more about what to expect and how many treatments you will possibly require.
It is important to note that multiple treatments are required in order to achieve maximum results.
Pigmentation that is older may take more treatments to eliminate completely versus newer pigmentation which may take less treatments.
Why You Shouldn’t Leave Dark Spots Untreated?
When left untreated, dark pigmented spots will continue to accumulate on your skin over time.
The more you allow brown spots and pigmentation to accumulate, the more difficult it will be to treat in the future, especially as your skin’s ability to renew and heal itself decreases with age.
Post Treatment
To achieve optimal benefit, 2 to 4 treatments may be necessary about 4-6 weeks.
Following treatment, apply an aloe-based gel or equivalent to sooth and moisturize the skin.
Avoid sun exposure throughout the course of treatment and use a broad-spectrum (UVA/UVB) sun block SPF 30 or greater when treatment area is exposed to the sun.
After the treatment, it is common that minor swelling or redness can occur in the area surrounding the pigmentation for a few hours at most post treatment.
In the area that was treated, it is normal for the spots to darken in colour then dry up and shed within days/weeks after the treatment.
Treated lesions will likely crust then slough over the course of several days or weeks. Patients should not scratch or pick at crusts.
Please follow Pre/Post Protocols form that was signed before treatment.
